Why take CoQ10?

Every one of your cells contains CoQ10 and uses it to produce cellular energy. Your cells need adequate CoQ10 levels however, CoQ10 supplements are typically difficult to absorb so you’ll need a scientifically advanced formulation like MitoQ to ensure superior absorption and effectiveness.

Mitoquinol (MitoQ) is a miniaturized and positively charged version of ubiquinol (CoQ10) that has the same antioxidant function as CoQ10, but it is modified to specifically reach the mitochondria – where your body’s energy is made and where a lot of oxidative stress can occur.

MitoQ is smaller and easier to absorb

MitoQ is around 21% smaller than CoQ10 (important for getting into mitochondria where antioxidants are needed most).

CoQ10 is a large sticky molecule with poor bioavailability. This prevents it from being absorbed into the gut effectively and prevents it from being taken up into cells easily.

MitoQ is more water-soluble than CoQ10 and doesn’t need fats to be absorbed into the body.

Unlike CoQ10, MitoQ is positively charged (+) with a triphenylphosphonium (TPP) ion. Combined with its smaller size, this helps it to enter mitochondria.

MitoQ’s positive charge allows it to be pulled, electrochemically, into the negatively charged (-) mitochondria, remember opposites attract!

CoQ10 cannot enter the mitochondria as effectively.

Does everyone need a CoQ10 supplement?

What is the difference between Mitoquinol (MitoQ) and ubiquinol (CoQ10) molecule?

MitoQ is a modified form of CoQ10 that has been formulated for improved bioavailability and targeted antioxidant action. MitoQ utilizes the antioxidant action of CoQ10’s quinone head but with a shortened tail, and TPP+ cation which pulls the molecule through the mitochondrial cell membrane. By collecting at the source of free radical production, MitoQ works to reduce oxidative stress in the cell, supporting cellular health.

Should I take statins/CoQ10 with MitoQ?

Combining MitoQ and statins could potentially have beneficial effects due to their respective actions on heart health and energy metabolism. However, it may be ideal to take MitoQ as well as a low dose (50-100mg per day) of regular CoQ10 supplementation, as statins can reduce CoQ10 levels in the body.
